European Air War

Challenge Ladder

Pilotlog Entries

The Challenge ladder consisted of a group of aircraft enthusiasts who participated in competitions that pitted one pilot against another in a test of combat piloting skill. The European Air War computer simulator allowed a mission wherein the abilities of the pilot and the capabilities of the aircraft would fly the best 3 of 5 sorties against each other. The goal of the ladder was to achieve the top spot on the ladder, then try to defend it against the onslaught of challengers below who also coveted the top spot. After each challenge, the victor was allowed to write a story of their exploits, sometimes adding a bit of imagination and tongue-in-cheek humor.

The stories on the following pages are a collection of their debriefs and other entries made in the pilotlog journals of numerous members of the European Air War Challenge Ladder. There is no particular time sequence in how they were created, but they all deal with the real or simulated experiences of real or simulated combat pilots. The pilots whose exploits are recorded in these pages are awarded the "Legion of Merit" for their valor in battle. Each linked page below contains a collection of storied debrief with the pilot victor's names shown.
