Hey gents...saw Blasto on Cliffs last night.  He's doing well.  Also saw a couple of our wingmates from SOW...Hackel and Tepes.  I told them we'd been flying BOS and BOM and they said to say  hello... Hackel said he wants to wing up with Wiley!

We continue to work on our VR implementation and it has posed some technical challenges and there will be some small limitations due to incompatibility between the VR API and our engine. It must be said that our engine was never designed to work natively with VR and the VR companies never designed their goggles and tech to work natively with a hardcore flight-sim with a custom graphics engine that includes gunner positions and bombsights. Remember that when it comes to WWII, only Sturmovik products actually have multi-crew aircraft with realistic gunner positions and bombsights - our competitors do not. So, this is new territory for VR in any hardcore sim. Overcoming some of these technical issues would require more time and custom work from us in addition to some new customization options from Valve and Oculus. How these smaller issues are resolved remains to be seen.
Overall, we are pleased with what we have accomplished in VR so far, especially flying from the cockpit in fighters and attack aircraft.
However, we’d like to share with you what one of our beta testers has said to us about flying and fighting with VR. This person is a big VR advocate and is involved in VR applications in his defense related job. Due to his knowledge of various VR systems and experience we consider his comments to be high praise.
“I have to hand it to your team, this is HANDS DOWN the BEST VR implementation when it comes to frame rate, FOV, Scale, and just straight up immersion. I actually reached out to the bar on the canopy to help me turn around in my seat to track a FW190 after a head-on merge!!!  Un-freaking believable! Please pass on my appreciation!
And No motion sickness AT ALL, I have yet to have a clean feeling after a flight-sim VR experience. Until now. thanks man!”

We hope you will have the same opinion. But remember this is new territory and there is likely to be unforeseen issues upon release.

I just got cable internet.  Do I need both the new router firewall activated and my MacAfee firewall?  Are they in compatible or can they cause conflicts?

Was having some connection problems which caused me to call Frontier DSL for service.  The repair guy came over and I told him: "look, I'm in an international competition flying WWII aircraft in a combat flight simulator.  I lost 2 air frames in 2 separate missions because of these disconnects AND THAT CAN'T HAPPEN !!!".  He looked at me with an expression of disbelief but then proceeded to work on the problem.  He left and a short time later called me to say he had fixed it and was also able to bump my speed up.   I guess sincerity pays off!  LOL

Crap... guess I spoke too soon.  Still having problems...

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

STORM OF WAR

SoW 4.0

The Storm of War team are proud to announce the commencement of the fourth "Long War" campaign. In the intervening time, we have worked hard to implement new features, better command team control, extra meta-gaming, superior statistics and a host of new targets and objectives. For a list of new features and concepts, take a look at the pre-announcement.

This announcement is to advise everyone of the schedule for the start of the campaign.



Mission 1

Sunday 11-Sep-2016 : approx. 12:00 BST (= 1100z / UTC)

We aim to start the server at 12:00 London/UK TIme. This time is approximate as no-doubt there will be some last minute tweaks and tests. As a result, don't panic if there are some slight delays as we start-up. The first mission is a real mission, and it is part of the campaign, but it is also a last soak test and we might have some problems. Pilots should be aware of that, and that we might have a restart if there are issues.

But in the same way it is a test for us, it is also a test for you. This is a perfect opportunity for squads to test their spawn points, aircraft, assign joystick buttons, sort out key mappings, and practice flying. We know that many of you will not have flown CloD for a while, so please do NOT try out your return to the sim by flying (and crashing) a Spit IIa or 109 E4N.

Mission 1 is fully live, in that there will be the correct campaign starting parameters, correct aircraft stock and targets. Losses that occur in Mission 1 are permanent.

But in the same way it is a start-up, it is also a chance to carry out recon, and make the first tentative probes across the Channel to test the mettle of your adversaries. In the same way that the real Battle of Britain started cautiously at first, we have the same here.



Server check

At the end of the first mission, we will evaluation the situation and check on the server parameters. As a result, there will be a small downtime between Missions 1 and 2.




Mission 2

Sunday 11-Sep-2016 : 18:00 BST (= 1700z / UTC)

With the first mission done, the second mission will be full-on. It will also be our first "Event" with triple points. We anticipate that the server will be busy (part of the motivation for Mission 1 is to ease players and server alike into the new campaign).

Any damage done in Mission 1 will still be there and, by now, the first re-supply stocks will have started arriving. We expect a lot of activity and a very exciting evening. However, once Mission 2 is running, the server will be switched over the automatic and will run continuously thereafter (problems aside!).

As an event, we will not be supporting individuals who are trying to get set-up. If you are worried about start-up issues, either do it in Mission 1, or contact your command team or squad leader.
