DCS Series Flight Sims / Getting into DCS, PC part idea's?
« on: November 25, 2018, 01:57:07 pm »
S! Wardogs,

I'm finally doing it. I'm dipping into the DCS waters. I figure it was a perfect time for it with the community made mod of the A-4E. Unfortunately my PC is going to be a big factor in terms of performance. I'm using 7 generation old equipment that's pushing almost 10 years old now minus my video card (1060 6gb).

I do however have an SSD (which I'm told helps a lot in DCS) but when I set it up, I made it the slave hard drive with my primary being the old mechanical HD's so I dont get a lot of performance benefits from having the SSD. I'm told its best to have the SSD has your primary in order to take advantage of the speeds. Anyway, my plan once I receive some inheritance money is to just go all out with a PC. Buy and build one thats going to last another 10 years. Any recommendations for CPU's and Mobo's gentlemen? Looking for Idea's for a solid system setup that will have me good to go for years to come. Money is not an issue (can't believe I'm saying that for the first time in my life lol) but I don't want to go to crazy (like $5,000 for a PC). I prefer to keep it under $3,000 if possible.

Thanks for the help gentlemen. DCS is the next logical step for me as I'm not totally satisfied with BoX or 1946 anymore. Looking for something much more complicated as I'm currently in flight school as it is.

IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 / Mission today?
« on: June 03, 2018, 11:50:50 am »
Just checking to see if we are having a mission today? Seen the posts about nukes. Should be fun although I'm sure my PC is going to give me a massive middle finger and crash once it goes off lol. Still should be fun to see what happens.

Here is an amazing video in high quality of an F4U pilot doing maneuvers using nothing but trim! Enjoy! (Note the speed at which he's going, 190 knots with 30" of manifold pressure. Going to try to recreate that in game)

IL_2 Cliffs of Dover / Today's Update

S! WarDogs,

BLITZ released a new update today. I haven't been able to test it as of yet. Has anyone heard from the ATAG guys exactly what has been fixed? Its a small patch so I assume its some sort of hotfix.

IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 / Dash's Essential Campaign Mods
« on: May 11, 2018, 06:39:38 am »
S! WarDogs

I know this is a little late (at least for the allies) to start using these mods but better late than never! ;) Here is a list of mods that I'm currently using for 1946 that I recommend courtesy of Dr. Strangelove!

Dunkirk Damage Sounds (Link has video sample showing what your enabling) - These damage sounds are incredibly done. Taken from the movie Dunkirk.

P-51 Correct Fuel Feed System - The P-51 currently draws from the wrong fuel tank order. This fix corrects that.

Improved .50 Cal Gun Sounds - This is the 50 Cal sounds that Gos sent via e-mail to everyone.

Allison Engine Sounds - This is an incredible Allison engine upgrade for your sounds! If your a P-38 lover. This is a must!

Rolls Royce Merlin Engine Sounds - This engine mod reminds me of the old WWII fighters Merlin sound from the Mustang. Except much higher quality. Another must-have.

Water=4 with more Whitecaps - Wish I would of found this sooner. Look at the pictures to see exactly what it does. Comes with 2 version. A "lite" version for slower pc's and standard. (Make sure to change Water=4 in confi.ini file)

I also recommend enabling "Extensions" in your sound settings in game. This gives an effect of going from stereo to surround sound.

This is currently the collection I'm using together with no problems. Really ups my immersion experience. Just download, drop into your JSGME and activate. If you decide to download the "Water mod" make sure to change your Water to Water=4 in your config. If your have any problems or questions, let me know and I will do what I can to help.

Once we switch sides and I get over to the Japanese I will have some more mods sorted out to include as well. S!

IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad / Coconuts Campaign Code
« on: May 07, 2018, 08:00:52 am »
For the guys behind the scenes considering trying something like coconuts. Here is a link to the coding files to take a look at in case AKA chooses to do something similar. Since I don't really play BoX I thought I'd pass it along.

Thought maybe Wayno would get a kick out of those two R2800's. I would love to fly a simulation version of this!

Did some more work today and couldn't help myself. Even got some pictures of the blueprint specs of the Packard Built Rolls Royce. Included some pictures of our T6 Texan and our "Zero". Except its not actually a zero. Its a T-6 Texan retrofitted with some genius fabrication work. Not only is it a Texan, that EXACT same "Zero" was used in Tora Tora Tora. I included pictures of both sides of the aircraft because they purposely made each side of the aircrafts markings different so they could use it in two different scenes of the movie.

Starting to learn how to work on maintaining aircraft. My first lesson..  The P-51. And for the record, viagra has nothing on this. ;) Learning strictly as an apprentice mechanic for now and an aluminum Tig welder when they are in a pinch.

Technical Help / Buying a second CPU
« on: April 20, 2018, 02:54:17 pm »
My current PC specs are pretty old in a relative sense:

Intel Xeon X5472 3.0ghz 4-core
8gb DDR2 RAM
GTX 1060 6gb

I was installing my new SSD (thanks Gos!) today and realized my PC has a second slot for another CPU. I can buy the exact same processor I have for dirt cheap. Like $20. If I bought a second processor how much would this help me with regards to gaming? This PC was originally a server PC that is quite powerful for what it is and how old it is.

S! Wardogs,

I shared this picture on teamspeak with a few members and they were impressed by it. This entire setup is about 20 bucks to build give or take a few bucks and is quite ingenious. Just uses some PVC pipe, a couple joints, and a base to put your HOTAS on. Just take some measurements of where it would work best for you. Y
