DCS Series Flight Sims / New Mission pending
« on: November 10, 2013, 08:34:14 pm »
I am contemplating building (or rather, rebuilding) a mission for DCS.  This mission will support A-10C, UH-1H, Mi-8, and KA-50.  It will be a rehash of my First Strike mission (hitting an airport with precision strikes and eliminating air defenses in order to capture a WMD).  Details will be coming soon.

There will NOT be airstart aircraft in this.  So please know how to start your aircraft and get set up for combat.  If you need help, ask ... either here or on Thursday night flights.

I imagine the AI that Rel was concerned about earlier probably applies to air to air combat.  In ground combat AI appears to be able to see targets through various terrain features (trees) which a human pilot cannot.  And their reaction time is lightning fast ... and they are usually pretty accurate even when the AI is set to the lowest skill level in the mission.

I have noticed in A-10 when going up against a SU-25 (even one that it nearly fully loaded) seems to be able to fly rings around me and zoom climb and extend away at will.  I'm not sure if this is just the Su-25 doesn't have a high level flight model ... or if the AI is just being uber efficient at conserving every last ounce of energy when pulling its maneuvers.

So ... by extension I would expect the German planes to do the same.  They will probably spot you from a far greater distance than you can spot them and they will be performing most maneuvers with ease without energy loss that you will have trouble following.  I'm guessing they will probably tone down the AI once the WWII sims take off and make them more realistic but for right now it is what it is so I would suggest keeping fights to 2:1 odds in your favor when possible.

For one thing, you need to make sure the gunsight is set right.  Need to set the wingtip distance.  Then need to set the range ring (the rotating grip on the throttle handle which you need to have keybound).

Once the wingtip distance is set for the appropriate target then you just have to set the range grip so that the inside of the diamonds of the gyro gunsight touch the tips of both wings and then hold it steady on the target for about 1 second to let the computer get a good solution, then fire.

Are you able to go into options and tinker with the commands and axis functions?  Or haven't done that yet?

The purpose of this thread was:

1.  To see who on my DCS roster actually checks the forums (so I know whether or not it is more efficient to send out updates either on here or via email).
2.  To see how frequently those people check.
3.  To see who follows instructions (yes Gos, I know the forum time stamps posts, this was the reason I asked people to do so).  i.e. it was a little test.

To Jericho and Trapper, I don't believe I have contacted you before regarding DCS.  Look for an email from me later tonight for additional info.

P.S. - Unless you are a quick/thorough study, you will likely not do well with ANY of the DCS simulation series on youw own.  These sims (or at least, the modules released to date) are essentially mimicking the real aircraft down to the smallest detail.   So for the most part if you are new you pretty much HAVE to seek assistance from the vets or else risk frustration/burnout.  This is why DCS Night is so important.  Thursdays.  21:00 EST.  Be there!

We fly DCS every Thursday night @ 21:00 EST

I think you already know some of us do read it,,, but yes, a few don't .. but those are the ones that gave up for whatever reason..

Gave up on what ?  I'm just getting my feet wet in DCS P-51.

Are you guys flying or practicing together or what ?

First time I learned that the P-51 had a rear radiator air scoop

DCS Series Flight Sims / DCS Training
« on: September 13, 2013, 01:43:35 pm »
In exactly one week I go in for shoulder surgery.  Barring any disasters I will only be out of commission for two to four weeks.

This does NOT mean that those currently assigned training tasks for DCS A-10C are off the hook.  I will be checking email and I may be able to get on TS if I'm not to loopy on pain meds so will be available for questions.

Those who have not yet passed Task 1 (and especially those who have not even attempted it yet) get on it.  It has been well over a month.  I want to start seeing some progress ... soon ... so we can move on to the fun stuff.

If you don't know how to do something, need a tip, or need some individualized instruction, let me know.

For other aircraft I do not have a curriculum yet and probably won't until after I return but again I am here to answer questions as I am able.

I sprung $100 for it.  I would go higher but I'm having surgery next week and I'm sure the bill for that will be astounding so I'm bracing myself for it.
