IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad / Re: Up dater issues
« on: November 25, 2013, 10:24:45 am »
Jericho, try the updater now, you can launch it from Start - Programs - IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad - IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad rather than using the desktop icon.

They switched the server off over the weekend while they got ready for the next update which is out now.  Don't be surprised if the game is unavailable on the weekends for a while.

I have the game updated but the authorization server is not available, I suspect it will be running from midnight tonight in Russia so I should be able to get in later this afternoon Pacific Time.

I tend to buy just about every flight that isn't arcade-ish - IL2 - CoD - DCS - RoF - BoS,  lets face it this is a niche market and if these products aren't supported flight sims will die out.

I am sure DCS WW2 will have great flight models with everything realistically modeled inside the cockpit but you will constantly be shot down by AI that can spot you from 10 miles away but are invisible past 500 yds (I can only fly DCS products with icons on).

The way it looks to me the best hope for a series of WW2 scenarios is BoS.  So far they haven't promised anything they haven't delivered and have been realistic about what and when they can deliver that alone is a big improvement over CoD.

TF have done remarkable work with their version of CoD, I wonder what the original developers spent their time doing!!!  Hopefully they will come up with new maps and aircraft, Malta and North Africa would be obvious choices as they can modify the existing AC and add a few completely new ones.

Looks very promising Recon, as RoF and BoS use the same engine I can see no reason why SOEW would not work with BoS.

Still need to work on my landings, so far I always ground loop the Lagg as I land.

I thought it wasn't going to be available until Tuesday but I was able to get it today.

Spent this evening setting up my controls and a little bit of practice on the Lagg 3.

Early days yet but I like it so far.

IL_2 Cliffs of Dover / Re: CloD 109 'flip move'
« on: November 18, 2013, 10:31:11 am »
what I find funny is that the 109 pilot complains that he is not able to climb to the Spit after pulling that maneuver.  If you could recover from something like that you should be at just above stall speed.

If there are salmon in the river it will be pretty obvious, easy to spot in the water and they jump all the time.  Later on there will be loads of dead fish.

Stall modelling Changes

1) 109 Stall Characteristics adjusted. 109 Stall now more benign, instead of 'snapping and dropping a wing' at the point it enters stall, the aircraft 'mushes' into stall and unless pushed very hard, simply loses altitude without noticeable loss of aileron control, wing drop or spin. This more closely reflects historical tests. Aircraft does not turn better, simply when entering stall, flight effects are different.
2) Spitfire Stall Characteristics adjusted. Spitfire stall now displays more extreme 'Snap and wing drop' characteristics if pushed too far, especially in high speed stall situations, as per historical descriptions. Number of rotations required to exit spin adjusted to reflect historical tests. Again, turn capability not affected, players who 'ride' the edge of the stall will see the same turn performance.
3) Hurricane Stall Characteristics adjusted. Number of rotations required to exit spin adjusted to reflect historical testing.
4) 110 Stall Characteristics adjusted. At the stall, it now shows less of a tendency to drop a wing or enter a spin, as per historical testing. Turn capability is unchanged.

From this it sounds as if the 109 doesn't really 'stall' anymore, no wonder they can regain control so quickly as they never loose it!

Technical Help / Re: Mouse pointer travels on its own...
« on: November 06, 2013, 10:18:46 am »
When I had this problem it was down to a mouse lever on my throttle controller.  At first I disabled it then I was able to add a dead zone that stopped it from wandering all over the place.

Have a look in 'mice and other pointing devices' in device manager, if there is an item there that is obviously not your main mouse try disabling it.

DCS Series Flight Sims / Re: Immersion finally
« on: November 03, 2013, 01:42:15 pm »
When I saw this I first though it detected radar signals from aircraft behind you.  After reading the tech manual it is actually a radar set that detects aircraft behind you, pretty neat!

It's like a new game, I put my res back up to 1920x1080, can see and track targets and don't need to mess with gamma :)

Great news!

I'd call that a river, any salmon?

Probably, I got mine from a similar seller on eBay.

I just bought it on eBay, $30 for a CD key that works with Steam.

I find it tough spotting the bad guys but hopefully that will get better.  Visuals are terrific, vehicles and helicopters are pretty cool although not modeled like a flight sim they are good for a FPS.

I'd like to do some coops if we get enough guys to get ARMA 3, but in the mean time I need a lot more practice.
