Boy, do I ever feel like an ass. All these posts about the smoke mod and all this back and forth with Gos, Ram, Weezle, TG and Hangten about this mod tonight. Take a look at the Mods section on our forum.

Trapper posted something about this Gurners mod (thats the correct name for the smoke mod) on April 11th.

Sort of puts how much help Trapper gave to the squad in the proper perspective.

There is an update that will fix the problem we both had tonite with the game locking up. Scroll down on this thread. You will see what I am talking about. The issue is there are new class files that need to be placed in the mod folder. Delete your old class files from the Effects/Files folder inside JSGME and replace them with the new class files you will need to download from the links on this thread. It works great !!!!!!

Actually in addition to being able to see smoke from farther out in HSFX 6, I also was able to see moving columns from further out on the Kurland map. They put up a hell of a dust cloud in version 6. I always wondered if I had some additional mod loaded whenever I flew on previous campaign but when I checked my JSGME and I had no major mods loaded, so go figure.

I plan on testing some of the mods on JSGME with HSFX7 to see if activating them connecting online and flying for a bit, and then de-activating them to see if the game doesn't leave some remnants in that increase smoke and dust cloud visibility. Being able to see those dust could would be quite helpful on this map as the roads are difficult to pick up visually on this current map. Especially at altitude.

Wayno, not sure if a smoke patch exists. There is an Effects Low mod that can be enabled using the JSGME mod selector, but mine is off.

I have noticed a distinct difference between how smoke from destroyed trucks, tanks show up in HSFX 7 compared to the way it was displayed in HSFX 6. To me in HSFX 7 it dissapates or disappears to quickly. In HSFX 6 I would hit a column and extend a bit then turn back looking to pick-up the smoke rising to re-ID the target area. Seems like in HSFX 6 I could extend a bit further and still pick up the target area. In HSFX 7 if I extend too far like anything more than 1000 yds, the smoke is no longer visible. This makes it very hard for me to see what I just hit and allow me time to form up on a secondary run.

As a retired Firefighter, I can tell you that smoke is visible for good deal farther out than 1000 yds. I think modders got this one wrong when it seemed just right in HSFX 6.

Once the map loads, the only base it shows is the blue base at Lille Lesquin. No red bases show up at all. If you click the blue base at Lille Lesquin only then do the other blue bases show up but they don't show as an actual base. You get that dotted circle icon thing that shows up on the map for each base, and you get a server message that says all the aircraft have been used up at that base and tells you to select another base. But you can't.

Problem is weird, can someone else check it out to see if your seeing the same thing as me? Post it back here if you can.

While testing the new campaign map in HSFX , I have found that the AI is almost unbelievably accurate and deadly. Both in the AI aircraft bombers and fighters, and in the AAA gunners on the ground.

Flew last night in a P-51D @ 8500 ft. about a 1/4 mile north of the German base at Dieppe. 1st AAA shot pinged me and the second took my wing off. As I said,  I was not even directly over the base and I got nailed.

Another sortie, attacked three AI bombers from the side, NOT from the rear. Second shot by AI gunners took out my engine and I was a glider.

Anybody else having probs with AI?

Have HSFX 7.0.2 installed and working. So far havent had any real issues. Any chance we can get a online server up and fly some practice missions online?

Count me in, I have a few days I may miss, but for the most part I should make most of the missions.

Thanks for the Help last night Ram, I still need to get my stick setting programmed in. Just a FYI, I took advantage of the current DCS modules and the sale price. Picked up both A-10C Warthog and P-51D Mustang. So now two more stick settings to fix.

Hey Guys,

Not sure if you remember me, I was quite active in AKA until a few years ago. Work got in the way and with the work load and responsibilities I had I was forced to step away for a bit, that and the fact my computer at the time was old and I had problems with lag and other issues.

Well I'm retired now and my wife said I needed to get back into flying because I've been absolutely miserable since I retired. So ..... I now have a new gaming computer and I'm looking to get back into the cockpit. I'm usually a WWII prop guy that loved IL2. Goshawk is helping me get set back up, and AKA_Wiley my ole wingman has told me about IL2 Cliffs of Dover, so that a sim that on my hit list. I saw this thread about AKA_TG and DCS aircraft and since AKA_TG is also another of my flying mates I was interested in what was being discussed.

I am also interested in DCS, especially the A-10C Warthog and have been considering adding it to my hit list. I have some questions and hopefully you guys can answer them.

First, about DCS World. I understand that this is a free program to download that is projected to act as a sort of Core or DCS System OS for all future DCS aircraft programs, and once installed and as you purchase any individual games such as DCS A-10C Warthog, or DCS P-51D. DCS World would act as the interface for those programs once you put in some sort of purchase code. Am I on the right track?

Second, as I said I have been thinking about adding DCS A-10C to my hit list. Does the stand alone game come with DCS World built in? Or do I need to download and install DCS World BEFORE I install A-10C?

Third, its been awhile since I have been shopping for PC game software. I went into one of my old haunts and was surprised to find out that the PC Gaming section has been dramatically downsized to make room for games designed for X-Box and PS whatever the latest versions is. I have noticed that I can purchase PC games from and have them shipped directly to me, but they also offer a PC Download version at a substansially reduced price. I'm a guy that in the past has always felt more secure with an actual cd-rom or game disk in hand. Any thoughts if the PC download would be the better way to go?
