IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad / Re: Spitfire Mark Vb
« on: July 10, 2017, 04:10:21 pm »
S! Gos lowering the prop pitch changes the prop blades angle to take a bigger bite of air thus lowering engine rpms, increasing prop pitch to a "fine" setting lets the prop take a smaller bite of air thus letting the engine increase rpms, think of it like this try running your car as fast as it will go top end in overdrive unless you have major horsepower you car will only go so fast as the engine doesn't make enough power to overcome the very high gear ratio while in overdrive,(coarse prop setting)now try running as fast as you can go but not in overdrive (fine prop setting)you will in most cases find that you go much faster as the engine can overcome the much better gear ratio when not in overdrive.

That picture is priceless LOL...... Yep been there as well during a SOW mission from now on it may be safer to push Hang out front at least we would be behind his guns lol:) Oh wait almost forgot Bucky the CO of the outfit is in this group as well, damn one more and Hang is an "ACE" we need to get AKA kill flags made up for Hang to wear on his aircraft lol

Hang you know were only "hackin" on ya a lil bit :)

Was very windy here in Michigan we had 50 mph gusts, there I was  flying along heading for home leaking fuel after attacking  target  then im sitting in total darkness I poked my head outside after grabbing flashlight and I could see all the stars clear skies lol and thought WTF REALLY!!!!!  I assumed a tree fell across a power line close by,almost started my generator but it was 10 pm so I thought well we have enough water pressure for washing up ,brushing teeth etc in the morn ... when power came back on at 400 am it woke me up .

S! you are right Scorp P40E has no boost limiter the allison motor will make 1500 HP at 3000 rpm and 55 lbs boost but cant stand the stress for long without blowing up.

PS Congrats on the kill Scorp the P40 isn't the easiest to get kills with so when you get one its somewhat special:)

Ram I think you mean vacuum vacuum drops as more throttle is applied, but,as engine reaches full throttle/rpms more air/fuel is allowed in= more horsepower, americans called this manifold pressure ,brits called it boost, low rpm\throttle setting =low boost, high rpm wide open throttle = more boost pressure we are talking supercharged engines here the faster the supercharger spins the more boost Allison engine has a mechanical driven supercharger meaning more rpms more supercharger speed more  boost

S! The trick to keeping the P40s Allison alive during combat is manifold pressure, when in hard combat  you can run your motor at 3000rpms and manifold pressure at 45lbs or below, your motor will live, you can spike it wide open for very brief periods (10+-) seconds (use extreme caution) but have to bring your manifold pressure (control with throttle) down after that if you want the motor to live. During high speed cruise, high speed climb and some combat use 2600rpm and 45lbs manifold pressure max this can be controlled with throttle adjustment once prop is set to 2600rpm also the P40 seems to run cool so you can close rads up quite a bit for much less drag, during summer temps you can run rads at 30-50%+-, during winter temps you can run rads at 15%+-,the P40 also has a very good roll rate and dives well, handles well at high speed,it turns decent but watch turning to much if you are playing with 109F. The P40 also has imo the best guns in the game for allied AC 6 50 cals hit very hard even if you only use 4 50cals for weight savings/slight performance increase, it still has plenty of firepower to knock any Axis AC down with a well placed burst.

DCS Series Flight Sims / Re: Flying 109K4
« on: May 02, 2017, 01:32:27 pm »
Im going to get another WW2 bird for DCS but haven't decided between the P51 or the Spit9,i know what you mean about AKAs direction or rather lack thereof, the entire AKA squad as a group are really just a bunch of small fragments doing their own thing, with no common direction moving forward together as a group, that really stinks and I really would like to get all the squad together for a meeting and push for a common goal but the last time we tried that a good portion of AKA still wanted to stay primarily with IL2 46 and that just doesn't work as that game is just to old and no online players/squads left.

DCS Series Flight Sims / Flying 109K4
« on: May 01, 2017, 12:45:54 pm »
S! after no time to fly for months I finally tried the 109K4 after owning it for more than a year all is good im progressing ok with K4, anyone else doing any DCS WW2 stuff? I have when I have time been flying the F86 over the last year or so in the 71st Sabre Sundays missions and its loads of fun. Im through with COD as my install is fubar now from something TF have done,COD wont even start and im not buying it again just to old of a game and not many going forward with it, no matter really as almost all of the guys we flew with in the past especially those from SOW have moved on to DCS/BOS and have stated that they wont return, too bad really as it could have been good but TF missed the boat and took 3 years between patches/updates and by the time they get around to getting TF5 out will be to late, most of the old hands have already left for newer sims

IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad / Very Poor Graphics after latest patch
« on: May 01, 2017, 12:41:04 pm »
S! After many weeks of not flying due to working much overtime I had some time several nights ago and tried to fly IL2 BOS and after game updated to the latest build the graphics are terrible almost like the difference between a non hdmi  cable vs a hdmi cable, was fine last time I flew pre latest patches any ideas what would cause this and what to do to fix? would like to get this sorted out as this series BOS/BOM/BOK is shaping up nicely, with better AC coming with the SpitfireV and A20 along with P39,not to mention battle of Midway next in line after BOK
