DCS Series Flight Sims / Some more news from Wags
« on: August 15, 2018, 05:34:04 pm »
Internally, the AIM-7 and AIM-120 versions now have the improved navigation system. Additionally, the internal AIM-7M now has several significant changes like corrected motor thrust-altitude dependence based on nozzle exit area and atmosphere pressure, adjusted drag and lift curves based on wind tunnel test data, and other changes.

We are now carefully testing these changes before we release and move to all AIM-7 and AIM-120 versions.

Also today internally, AIM-9X tracking was increased to 90 HOBS and flare rejection improved. It's a monster.

Last night on Blue flag in the F-18 I had a lock on an enemy close maybe 7-10 miles.... triangle dead center in my hud with the dot in the lock triangle so there was no extreme angle ....Fired... for no apparent reason 7 goes way wide right, miss...another way wide right ....another same..finally I switched to Aim9 and got em' but WTF ...he wasn't even flaring of chaffing ....

We were low so could ground or mountain clutter cause this even if a lock is maintained ? Cause' it never broke lock.

DCS Series Flight Sims / awesome vid 'Pitching Decks US NAVY"
« on: July 27, 2018, 02:46:01 pm »
Shows how hard it really is..... even for the pros.....

Anyone ready for night time pitching decks?

I've decided to move on to a different gimble now that a higher quality smoother more accurate all metal one has become available (based off reviews of all Baur's BRD cam sticks) ...Ordered today from Vipril's the VPC WarBRD Base .......

The VPC WarBRD is a collaboration project, featuring the latest iteration of the BRD gimbal design, with the efforts of both BRD and VPC. ....BRD controllers are tried and true and high quality and I can't find a single bad review or problem with Baur's cam design in any of his custom sticks so I pulled the trigger ..... Baur was sent a sample after testing and he concluded that the unit was in fact slightly better due to the fact the contact points were slightly more polished after the intense tests! He was very pleased with the results and quality of the construction and encountered no unpleasant wear compared to the untested samples.

The best part is you can use the Warthog stick handle with no adapters necessary! That means lot's of stick options...

VKB use one CAM per axis, WarBRD use two opposed CAM per axis and are based on BRD-DS gimbal mechanics. BaurBRD was pioneering this in 2010/11 on the Russian forums.
Dual opposing cams ensure 100% symmetrical actuation. All the single cam variants have to have the cam profile modified because whether it's moving towards the pivot point or away from it changes the moment arm/mechanical advantage, thus requiring compensation to the profile of the cam but it's never perfect due to a complex myriad of changing relations that are hard to compensate for.

DCS Series Flight Sims / "Memory Limit Issues" From DCS
« on: April 06, 2018, 11:28:37 am »

Hey guys,
This post is to clarify the issues that some have been having with 2.5, and to clarify what is going on, and the best way to approach working with it.

First, this is NOT a memory leak. A memory leak would be that usage of RAM continues to increase during running of the sim until it uses all you memory and the program crashes or stops responding.

What is actually happening is that with 2.5 and all its new features, people are hitting their RAM limit on load of maps. Why? Well 2.5 has added higher object counts, from collide-able trees, new buildings, more buildings, and other objects to make the maps look more alive and detailed. Include in this higher detailed textures and you can see how more RAM is needed.

Currently ED is testing a solution that will help much of this. The initial version of the dynamic texture unload manager which will greatly improve performance for heavy online missions is currently under test and should be available for users within the coming two weeks. We apologize for the delay but a last minute issue arose with this module.

What can you do while you wait? Adjusting older missions from 1.5, especially for multiplayer, by removing un-needed units can help. Mission design can really help manage RAM usage, and for the time being will be the best bet to help. As well, look at your computer specs, by no means does ED demand you guys upgrade to 32GB, but if you are running 8GB, you may need to evolve with the times, and understand that as ED offers bigger more detailed environments, the demands on your system will need to evolve as well.

I hope this clarifies a little more of what is going on, and that ED is truly working to make this the best experience for all.
