General Discussion / Re: Breaking free of current Anti Virus
« on: April 01, 2016, 08:52:40 pm »
Thanks all but do you also use your tub for like looking at your bank account or just for gaming?

If I end up downloading win 10 I know Ill have to do the upgrade or install of the virus protection
'thingme'. Right now My Symantec is bothering me like an Hindu indian yabbadabba. They ain't getting any more of my money.

Hat this crap. Why cant Windoz just have virus protection as part of its OS!
Ill start a petition and we can send it to Bill Gates.  :P

Hey Ram

Let me know how it goes installing win10 on a fresh Hard drive.

Also if you could, define extra copies of win10. Are they paid for with unique serial numbers?

Is it in the USB boot disk image format and if so how did installation go for you?

Is there a way to purchase the OS for fresh install these days?
I am very curious because I'll be doing similar stuff soon to make myself a new crate. hep me hep me!

Hope this is the right place to discuss this.

I'm trying to break free of the dreaded 'Symantec' fire dragon and could use some help before migrating this tub to win10.
What virus protection is suitable for a home PC these days?
I've heard in the past that some of the guys use AVAST free version with no significant complaints.
Is that still true today?

I am looking for any input at all, even recommendation as to what  NOT to install.

Thanks all!

Maybe someday we can do something like shockingly different.
I know Ram has a few ideas about what we could be doing to shake things up a bit, to keep interest.

BTW no worries! The list of choices is great!
Its good that there are at least 7 workable maps! That makes this game a true classic, no matter what has come out since.  I enjoyed the France map(I guess that's western Europe)

Wow it sure feels spooky when the server is down. Gos No worries. You rock with this stuff. We are all so spoiled
and its all your fault :)

Anyone want to piggyback on the ATAG server for now?
I'm there and it is about
7:27 PM est
Lets get a coop going or something.

I also lurking on HL

My thing about our campaign is I really wish we had more tanks to kill and that the tanks were perhaps scattered about in some areas and together near a road in other areas (to simulate some kind of reality in how tanks were deployed. )

But the key thing is they should be a little easier to kill then they currently are.

The damage metrics for tanks is way overdone. It is genuinely frustrating to see a 500 pound bomb crater, less than a foot away from a tank's track wheels and that sucker is still intact as if it were not even scratched.

IS there any way at all to adjust damage modeling of tanks while placing many of them scattered so that the game is much more realistic and fun to play?

IL_2 Cliffs of Dover / Team fusion Patch is getting harder to find
« on: March 07, 2015, 09:33:38 am »
I wish these Team fusion patches were available without setting of alert flags during the download. As much as I would like to get back into COD There is just too much important stuff on my HD to risk something going wrong. I don't like NAV but I have to give it respect.  I don't know enough to be sure is not really a threat and I would not know how to accept the file anyway since NAV will not allow it.

Anyway, last time I ignored the alert and Downloaded files for another thing (HSFX 6 ) it turned out the file actually carried a Trojan so it seems the longer these links are around the more likely it is that they will be carrying a Trojan. I should have gotten the files a long time ago.
Thanks for listening.

IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 / Re: P-40E bomb delay sucks!
« on: March 07, 2015, 09:17:26 am »
I will go with 5 or 6 seconds if it takes it and keeps it.

I agree with Rel and GW's  observation.
Every time you get into that screen the bomb delay field wants attention, else if the field that holds that value does not see a value change event then when you exit the screen that field will automatically default to guess what, zero seconds.

To avoid this problem never enter that screen without giving that woman some attention, as in
each and every time. Hmm sound familiar? Think of it like kissing your wife before going off to work (or war.)

The stats look great Gos!

I have questions regarding some of them with respect to showing a more accurate picture of the Battle.
(Some of this comes from the way we look at data in the labs where I work, so no worries. I am not a real scientist I just play one on TV.)

Does the number of sorties reflect getting shot down or killed by ground fire? Is there a stat to show successful sorties (as in pilot lives to see another day by not getting shot down or killed (plane damage aside.)

As far as air kills go, does it make sense to find the number of (successful) sorties whereby the plane was either returned or at the very least the pilot lived to see another day.

Assuming the answer to Q2 is yes, it would be very interesting to see what the real kill ratio is of all of us, (both air and ground kills per sortie.) For example Dividing the number of air kills by the number of (successful) sorties would give a very accurate picture)

IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 / Saturday Night Practice for Sunday Campaign
« on: January 10, 2015, 05:32:32 pm »

I am currently bored to death at the moment, so I thought id mention campaign practice :)
I vote we have Campaign practice time on Saturday as well as Tuesday.

I'd also be cool with the concept of strengthening situational awareness by keeping two man teams
where the wingman guards the lead and roles change on every turn.
I think having a scenario where we all practice slugging it out in a mayhem with volunteers taking up 109e7's for sacrifice would be a good starting point.
We need to be getting more air savy and learning how to stick to our wingman when flying in a brawl. Keeping a tight unit formation will always give good shot opportunities for the wingman as they keep the lead's six clear. Stuff like this is best practiced when it is for more than 1 minute every 30 mins of flying as we do now. Rather, it should be air start, quick to get to the point and easy on restarts, as in 'air starts' from decent altitude. This way the practice can be more efficient at getting all of us in the situations we will face in the real thing.

Not sure if there is a conflict with DCS flyers but it is certainly convenient for me and possibly some others like Rage and Greywolf, Gos, Gunslinger, Archangel, Deerhunter, Agilehunter, Merc ( Im sure I missed a few) . Turns out over the last few weekends I perceived we were kind of getting together until the Holidays came upon us, throwing everything into chaos again.

The thing is, one really only needs 412.1 to continue finding a solution on their own to 7.02, howbeit maybe a little difficult but still do-able. Most of us have the mods, or they are still out there somewhere. We just keep on losing the base game version, darn all of us for being so careless!

Id put that 412.1 on the card first. See if it fits.
