DCS Series Flight Sims / Its not bad, that A-4E-C mod
« on: March 17, 2019, 07:49:09 pm »
Surprisingly, I am digging this mod for its old era technology.

It is also fast enough to avoid most aaa sites, has an interesting array of weapons and can even use 2 sidewinders in a pinch.
There is also a AG45 shrike capability as well as a ground radar , which I have yet to fully discover.
Also the autopilot modes are functional and interesting.
With proper cap and wild weasel support this thing is a great bomb lugger.

If DCS ever make A-4 to buy I am all over it.
This mod rocks! Looks like v 1.3 is a fine version!

I guess that describes the problem with making campaign progress. Can't be done with upgrades appearing randomly.
Its always going to be there so we might as well find a way to deal with it.

First thing in dealing with it is to acknowledge that this problem will never go away.

So how do we maintain a campaign progress through these upgrades?
Are we screwed?

You two ought a go up against each other! That would be satisfactory :)

DCS Series Flight Sims / Re: multi monitors in DCS
« on: January 27, 2019, 10:51:18 am »
Greywolf has good track ir settings (like some kind of over filtering setting that the software will take but is not in the default range presented) The setting keeps the display from moving about once it is on an area of interest; kind of like pausing, only no keystroke is needed; It is in the filter settings.

I have used >>only<<  track ir to zoom in on a area of the cockpit with this filter and it is still enough to be useful, howbeit it does limit the head movement, but it works reasonably well, just not as still as pausing. Its all a matter of personal taste.

You may already have this but If not and if you want to try that one out let me know.

I Know what you mean Silver. I tried to use dual screen and got severely clobbered for it.

I use pan view with the mouse to help with that. I use track IR but only for  general scanning out the window while flying.  I think I may be even more blind than you.

The mouse pointer is visible but with track ir, there is a motion drift to the display, so zooming in for a click on a switch does not always work out nicely for me. I need time to focus on what I am seeing, a still display makes this possible. You probably do something like this below.

When I need to 'get real' with my eyesight I do the following;
* pause TrackIR,  (a single key or JS button for that)
Usually panning with the mouse is on by default (your key settings may need some configuring as in pan up, down, left, right )

* Using mouse control (thumb joystick) pan to the area to see while zooming in  on it
* turn on mouse pointer (a single key or JS button for that  [force cursor to show on/off] )

* click the cockpit switches and levers

I'm sure its not perfect but it is the best I can do.

Very impressive!

Technical Help / image mechanical HD to SSD
« on: November 30, 2018, 10:28:49 am »
My main drive is mechanical and
win7 professional N

I would very much like to image this drive to a SSD but imagine it is not really possible today.

Anyway, we used to do this where i worked using linux command line (to do the actual imaging)  but that was years ago and i'm sure this trick cannot be done anymore.

Is there a way to transfer an entire drive image to a solid state drive?

DCS Series Flight Sims / Re: Community A-4E mod now available!
« on: November 30, 2018, 10:15:56 am »
For a free mod I think the aircraft is really nice.

Vietnam era technology
Clickable cockpit switches
Carries a good load of bombs and rockets
Can use sidewinders (not yet figured out)
Has a primitive but functional radar for Sead missions. (not yet figured outr)

not much documentation on what this mod can really do (look for chucks guide "DCS A-4E-C Guide v1.03.pdf")
The Load out selection can be tricky
instrument lighting is buggy
track ir sensitivity is waay out there

I still like it as a DCS beginner jet and its worth downloading and installing, (Ask Mo).

in ...\savedgames\dcs openbeta\config\options.lua

There are some items worth looking at
Someone check these plz...

["multiMonitorSetup"] = "lmfcd+camera+rmfcd",
["fullScreen"] = false,
["autologin"] = true,
["scaleGui"] = false,

Thanks in advance
PS: Can I safely delete the entire folder? I will try

I'm installing again, this time for good.

The problem as I see it now is 'lua' related so I will try rams suggestion above when it is finished installing.

Thank you Rel and Clutter for your input as well. We'll all figure it out soon ;)

I suspect the lua approach could work, but probably will not take. My fear is that my erroneous configuration is somehow stored in a remote server, the way steam does it. If so, I will never be able to fix this without a support ticket.

IS there anyone here that knows which if any registry items are affected by installation?

(Got a sneaky feeling these are persistent)
