He-111 belly 20mm
« on: January 08, 2016, 04:19:08 pm »
Has anyone figured out how to use the belly 20mm that points forward?  When in the gondola gunner position pointing to the rear, I can look forward and see that the cannon is rigged to fire remotely, so I figure it's something the pilot controls.  I haven't figured out how to select and fire it - wondering if anyone else has.

Cool thanks Scorp, I'll check It out later.

Edit:

Ok finally got to it.  Sort of strange, when you are in the belly gondola facing to the rear and hit LShift-C, it doesn't turn you around (I had tried this before).  If you hit LShift-T it still gives you the gunsight view of the rear facing gun.  You have to use the mouse to rotate your view to the front, then hit LShift-T and it finally gives you the gunsight view of the forward facing cannon.

You have to use the gunner position for this and the nose cannon (if equipped), but for ground strafing it's better than nothing if you have unarmed trucks, artillery, etc. to attack.

You can also command your gunners to attack ground targets.

Good point - I was hoping I could find ways to strafe.  Otherwise the He-111 is just a one dimensional bomber.  Also the nose gun can be modded as a 20mm which is also good for strafing.  When I tried bombing in the campaign with the Pe-2 I couldn't see a target (supply dump) from up high:  I had to drop down and bomb and strafe from low alt.  I'll probably have to do the same thing with the Heinkel :)

The He-111, while having to use the gunsite to dive in and drop bombs, was more eefective in hitting artillery then using the IL-2.
