DCS WW2 Multiplayer - I'm dropping my pledge
« on: October 02, 2013, 07:51:45 am »
http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114924

I didn't realize DCS has no dedicated server and it's laggy, etc...

I'd rather take my money and go buy Arma 3 and hope for the best with Team Fusion and IL2Sturmovik.  Thanks goodness for 777 - at least it's not vaporware.

I just can't imagine me buying DCS WW2 to fly mostly against AI offline.

Maybe when they fix all of it then I would buy it, but I'm not supporting a bunch of offline players to fly around with lag.

I think the fact that ED and what is essentially Maddox games have partnered together will ensure the MP is a focus not an afterthought, in fact in the first video either Oleg or Luthier speaks to the fact that it is robust MP play that gives a game longevity, something we all know.

As you mentioned the best execution of online play is COD, and thought it took tweaking from TF to bring it to its full potential it is still Luthier's base code built into the game, I expect the same from DCS WWII.

Nothing makes me think that this is just DCS "as is" with Oleg and Luthier helping out, they are certainly talking about a new product.

Confusing, but maybe actually we will see this - I read about EDGE and here:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114586

"DCS WWII will be made using EDGE and I would suspect most future content will use EDGE too. Why waste time developing a dedi server for the old engine when it will soon be out of use? It has already been stated that EDGE will have a Dedicated server."

"well wags stated that edge will be released before the end of the year with nevada as the first map..."

I will keep digging, maybe I will keep a $40 pledge - I dunno, need to justify buy Arma 3 at $59

Arma III is cool and all, but I want to see a healthy WWII simulator genre and IMO the only way to help make that happen is to support these project financially.  I have taken a wait and see approach with BOS, but that is because of 777's model of making you pay for compasses and other things that in my opinion should not be paid additions.  That being said I will buy it when it comes out and if they go with just a pay for a complete plane model and the MP is up to par I will continue to support it.

As I said with COD, if we don't support the genre it will die.

I am not a cheerleader, but DCS is very good,, and while it does run it's own server, they do have 3rd party server software which has lots of options... I would definitely say DCS is one of the best, they will not disappoint,, always almost fix most bugs.. They are a big organization with several parts to it including their own flying stable of real aircraft. just look a little closer.... I understand there are skeptics, but.. I bet many other will back me up with solid trust. Of course nothing is free, but if you think the aircraft are expensive, when sales come they are very good sales.  IMHO ;)

Ram...  Yo crack me up!

"always almost fix most bugs."

Huh?!?  Are you saying that they ALWAYS (but unfortunately) almost fix, most bugs? (Like they never fix bugs, but they get close to fixing them?)

-OR- Are you saying they Always ALMOST fix MOST bugs?  (So some bugs they almost never fix?)

8)Hey guys, I am a new player to DCS F-51 and DCS World. When I try to fly it, I have no CH HOTAS inputs into the game? What do I have to do with that Switch action File to ensure that the HOTAS or even my modified switch actions are primary for the game and for Training?? Do you have something you have to select before playing?
