Mac owners, question regarding IL-2
« on: October 28, 2013, 11:40:34 am »
A friend of Wayno's has a Mac with Windows 7 as a dual boot. He purchased IL-2 from Steam. I tried to assist him with setting up HSFX, byt I was unable to locate on his computer where Steam put the files, like the conf.ini.
Anyone know the secret to Steam's install for this game?

His monitor / Windows desktop is set to a resolution of 1600-1090. The Steam version runs fine on this resolution.

I tried setting him up with a second install of HSFX7 and when I tried to run it, the monitor setting screen came up but there was no option for 1600-1090 and setting that in the HSFX version's conf ini would not allow the HSFX version game to run. I had to reset the monitor and HSFX game's conf.ini to 1024x768 to get it to run.

Any help will be appreciated!

Gos

Thanks, Ram. Steam actually installed the game onto the Windows partition, but I can't find the files for the game.
I need to know where Steam installs IL-2 Sturmovik 1946.

Thanks, Ram. It may be all for naught, since I tried to install HSFX 7 on the Mac computer and could not get it to run in any video resolution other than 1024x768. I gave up trying until I could learn more about how the Mac and Steam inatallation functions. I later found out that his computer gave him an error message that the files I recently installed were corrupt and he thereby removed them. He probably thinks I gave him a virus now and not likely to let me within 100 yards of the machine.
Oh well, I tried.
:)

I thought you might use a utility to get into the files, using the remote online utility to help him.. honestly, I have spent many hours with macs, but there was a few years ago.. a long while back, we used them to program for testing in aerospace (I worked with a nephew of Dick Rutan, (the guy who is famous for flying around the world on one tank of gas from the mojave desert..),  he wrote much of the code with us on a mac.. and I also used them to create schematics for a Class 'C' race car that raced Lemans around 1990. I worked instrumentation... But that was a long time ago, last mac I touched was my daughters laptop she uses for school. I was just thinking using a utility for mac like we use windows explorer, they se a similar program but the problem lies when the person you are trying to help gets paranoid, and becomes an obstacle from getting your work done to help them...

Thank you for trying to help the guy if he decides to get serious, he can buy a Windows machine.. or try again in the future,, in some forums are probably more answers..

A dual boot to a windows partition no longer cares if it's a 'mac'  - at that point it's purely windows running on an intel machine.

So whatever you would do a normal PC - you can do.

Might want to make sure all your windows drivers are up to date - sounds like you don't have a good video drivers if that is the best res you can get ?
