Ghost Skies

Hey everyone.   I hope all is well in AKA land.  I just wanted to give you guys a heads up that we are finally, actually, really, ready to play GS. ;)  We're just putting together teams.  When we have enough (20ish minimum would be nice), we're starting.  Technically the campaign was done and working mid last year, we just couldn't get anyone to commit to lead and manage the Red side.  With the amount of human control the war needs, you can't play without people doing the work on both sides.  Now we've got 69th_Sundog in place and he's doing a really good job the last few weeks.  He's learned the system well enough, so we're set to start when we have the players.  I hope you guys are still interested.  It would be great to fly with you all again.

We had you listed on the Red side from last year, but I've heard Blue is probably the preference now, correct?  I can change you over, no problem, if that's the case.  At the moment we actually need more Blue than Red because 69th have really been showing up strong, along with a few DD and ATAG guys.  We've settled into a Wednesday / Sunday schedule for now, 9:30pm ET launch.  Let me know if anyone needs help with anything.  Hope to see you guys soon.

Thanks Stecher!

Guys this campaign is good fun! I have flown it quite a bit in the testing stages.  It is very much like our AKA Campaign and Forgotten Skies, it is more tactical in nature, so it is quite different than SOW.  There are some cool features like if you get wounded you have to land within a certain amount of time depending on how wounded you are.   Fuel and other supplies are managed thru the campaign system and of course there is a ground war going on.  I am going to fly some of these for sure, though Sundays are tough for me to attend.

Stecher we are open to fly either side, we don’t have a real preference, let’s see who wants to participate and we can give you a better idea of what side we should jump on.

Thanks!!

Sounds good, assuming times are eastern?  Sundays would conflict with the IL2/46 campaign, but Wednesday's would be more open for me.  With IL2/46 campaign missions and DCS training/Blue Flag it's just a matter of available time and/or if I'm not taking a night or two off from flying during the week :).

Yeah, Wed is also good for me but not Sunday evenings. German A/C is fine with me as well.

Yeah, that time was ET, sorry (updated).  Scheduling is difficult, with guys spread around 2 or 3 games now, and we've had Europeans and Aussies interested too.  There's a chance in the future we might move Sunday evening to Saturday mid-day or something.  Not for now though.  If you guys can make Wednesdays, that would be awesome.

It's very much in the spirit of the old Forgotten Skies, but quite expanded in many ways.  Traditional combat requiring local air superiority, strafing, and tactical bombing, is driven by the dynamic ground war, but there's even more strategic management (and bombing/defending) of resources and industry than before.  It's a more complex and interdependent system.

Using a now heavily modified HRCodWar system allows us to be much more open with what can be happening on the map.  Some of the 69th squadron are even planning on full time ground combat roles (driving tanks, manning guns, etc).  That system is open to captured or dead players too.  A couple weeks ago I jumped in a Pz.III positioned in the hills south of Wilmington.  We had strafed out all the flak earlier in the mission, so I rolled up next to their control tower and shot some Blennies as they landed with my main gun.  I won't give up my cockpit most nights, but it was quite satisfying. ;D  Ground unit composition and mobility are entirely open, not a fixed list going station to station, so visual reconnaissance and team communication are critical.  You never really know what you're flying into, making every mission a unique experience.  You can even rescue downed pilots, if they've been nice enough to you ;).

We still have the same TS up, but we've been using ATAG TS more often, since it makes us more visible.

I haven't flown in awhile but maybe I can try to get some practice in and see if I can play next week.

IL2 COD is still my favorite  :)

S!~
Missed last night- date  / movie night. I propose we fly for the Luftwaffe side as Stetcher stated. I mentioned in passing- to I think Hackl- that AKA had been flying 109's and German bombers in SOW- and would most likely integrate easily into the Blue side. That said- if others would prefer to fly for the Allies- this is the time to hash this out. In fact I had tried to join the Blue side one night almost 3 weeks ago and got kicked- only to find out later that AKA was signed up to fly Allied.
I vote for flying for the German side- and can commit - for the most part- to Wednesdays- and to some Sundays- if not most. Organized - well done campaigns are not easy to find- yet there  is the one death rule. This does make for a more serious approach- which is mostly good. Those who say crash on take-off- or take a flack hit after a 45 min flight may feel the pain and start to gripe- but remembering FS from years ago- such was the case.
I think its about time to dust off our gear- grease the throttle lever- and take to the virtual skies of Cliffs of Dover yet again. In my opinion- if we fly Luftwaffe- we join some of the best online WW2 sim pilots there are. I'm out of town Sunday- but if back in time- I will join up and fly. That is if we have decided  which side to fly for. Look forward to seeing some of you guys online soon!

Since that is what is needed and we are comfortable with it I am up for flying Blue.

Remember if you die you can man an AAA gun or jump in a tank!

Did a couple of sorties last night. This is very cool.  Ground objects and shipping to destroy like the former FS campaigns...recons...sorties with individual objectives to be met. You are up against live enemy pilots.  The server ran smoothly for me.  No lag.  Escorted 110's to shipping targets and strafed a column.  The rules are intriguing and think many would find this very immersive.  I have to re-read the rules though.  For example, when you take off you need to measure fuel use with the intended objectives of the specific sortie.  I took off with 100% fuel without thinking and had to stay up while others landed so that I didn't waste the 3/4's of my remaining fuel. Once you land, your fuel is non returnable to the base reserves.  That worked out OK but I took an unnecessary chance and luckily wasn't damaged on the first go round. I'm planning on flying Wednesday.  Hope to see some more of you guys ...
