Too bad there is no video for the P-40.  I have problems stooping the engine from blowing up in combat.

Hey Scorp - have you tried adjusting the prop pitch down to approximately 50%?  With this setting I can increase throttle to about 85% and it is still in the continuous setting (engine RPM is around 2200 or so), giving me a little better performance.

That's more or less what I do as soon as I'm air born.  The trouble is that once in combat the constant speed prop doesn't seem to be able to do a good job of controlling the RPM.  A dive puts you from combat into emergency and blown engine in very short order.

 S! The trick to keeping the P40s Allison alive during combat is manifold pressure,when in hard combat  you can run your motor at 3000rpms and manifold pressure at 45lbs or below,your motor will live,you can spike it wide open for very brief periods (10+-) seconds (use extreme caution) but have to bring your manifold pressure (control with throttle) down after that if you want the motor to live. During high speed cruise,high speed climb and some combat use 2600rpm and 45lbs manifold pressure max this can be controlled with throttle adjustment once prop is set to 2600rpm also the P40 seems to run cool so you can close rads up quite a bit for much less drag,during summer temps you can run rads at 30-50%+-, during winter temps you can run rads at 15%+-,the P40 also has a very good roll rate and dives well,handles well at high speed,it turns decent but watch turning to much if you are playing with 109F. The P40 also has imo the best guns in the game for allied AC 6 50 cals hit very hard even if you only use 4 50cals for weight savings/slight performance increase, it still has plenty of firepower to knock any Axis AC down with a well placed burst.

the manifold pressure drops as there is an increase in throttle. Some people get that confused. as my autoshop teacher would say, the engine does not suck air. There is a drop in pressure....   :o

 Ram I think you mean vacuum vacuum drops as more throttle is applied,but,as engine reaches full throttle/rpms more air/fuel is allowed in= more horsepower,americans called this manifold pressure ,brits called it boost, low rpm\throttle setting =low boost, high rpm wide open throttle = more boost pressure we are talking supercharged engines here the faster the supercharger spins the more boost Allison engine has a mechanical driven supercharger meaning more rpms more supercharger speed more  boost

Finally starting to get the hang of it and managed my first kill in a P-40.  Have been sticking to 2600 rpm so far but will try 3000 in the future.

I think the difference between this and the Spit (CoD) is that the Spit has a boost limiter that prevents over pressure.

 S! you are right Scorp P40E has no boost limiter the allison motor will make 1500 HP at 3000 rpm and 55 lbs boost but cant stand the stress for long without blowing up.



   PS Congrats on the kill Scorp the P40 isn't the easiest to get kills with so when you get one its somewhat special:)

Pontiacs and other cars used to have an 'economy gauge' on the high performance luxury cars in the 1960's. it would show you economy dropping as you put your foot into it. It was nothing but a vacuum gauge that looked sporty in the Pontiac Lemans, Grand Prix, etc... the engine were huge and got about 10 miles per gallon if you had a heavy foot. the cars also weighed about 2.5 tons.

Chevy would use the vacuum from both , if I remember right, #3 and #5 cylinder (small block V8's) from the intake to run vacuum to things like the vacuum brake booster. My Lincoln used vacuum for not only brake booster but also the door locks...
