I've attached an Excel spreadsheet (bottom of the post) showing the plane set and counts (displayed above as images).

Here's a text version of the document, but it looks off as the columns don't line up (thus why I attached the spreadsheet):

On the A-6_Airfield (allied home/supply base), which uses the test airstrips, the B-29 and B-24 won't spawn on the runway as they are too big.  Thus, they will air start.  All other aircraft should spawn on the test airstrips.

See the post above for what aircraft will be at what airfields and in what quantities.  The supply bases will have all aircraft, but will require a decent flight time to bring aircraft forward to Okinawa or the surrounding island airfields.

The allied side has 3 US carriers and 1 British carrier.  The axis side has 1 Japanese carrier.  Each side has 2 battle ship divisions, the rest of the ships are convoys of various types/sizes, needed to move ground units from the respective supply bases (A-6_Airfield for RED, and BB-17_Airfield for BLUE).

The allies have a toe-hold on the southern tip of Okinawa, and have captured two airfields, Naha and Oroki.  The rest are all occupied by the Japanese.  The sea routes show that there are only two landing spots on Okinawa - Naha airfield/harbor and Hedo airfield/harbor.  There is one landing spot on Ie Shima and the island in AO-13/14.

Excellent!
Those B-29's are capable of massive destruction though. Won't they be able to pretty much wipe out an airfield or supply base with one or two passes?

Hey Gos - yes, they can do a lot of damage.  I was debating on limiting the numbers available at the supply base, now that I realize the B29 and B24 are air starts due to the test air strips.  Maybe a max of 8 or something for each.  Similarly for the Japanese Ki-67 bomber which weren’t produced in large numbers (although they didn’t even carry a larger bomb load then the Betty).

Still, they are only available at the supply base so one would need to fly them to Okinawa to have them based there.  Like I said, since they are air start, you can theoretically load them up with maximum load outs which you probably would have a hard time doing if they were ground start.

If no one objects, I can limit them as mentioned.

Thanks for the feedback.

Edit - regarding the supply bases, as you will see, I've put the big rock/mountain structures around them.  The supply/fuel and most of the ground vehicles will be underneath those for their protection.  So hitting the enemy supply base will not reap any rewards.  These supply bases are meant to represent far off locations (e.g. Marianas for the allies, Japan for the axis), so they shouldn't really be targets for human pilots.

I've made some fixes to the campaign files... going to see about generating some missions and see how things look.  Also, I updated the plane counts somewhat, limiting some of the counts at the respective supply bases, for the reasons stated above, plus limiting some of the aircraft that weren't as available in that theater, but keeping some for the fun factor :).

I've attached an updated Excel spreadsheet, and have pasted the contents as text below.

Also, for the commanders, with the fairly long flight times for AI from the supply bases, I've pushed the respawns to 60 minutes.  This way there will hopefully be less AI overlapping flights and better performance, etc.  This may mean one less wave than usual - although the last wave usually came near the end of the mission and wasn't very useful anyway.

One more small update - I added the A6M2-21 and F4F-4 as possible AI fighters, removing the P-47D and N1K2 as possible AI fighters.  That way the more advanced types' inventory won't be reduced by AI getting shot down.    These two added types are at the supply base and the blue and (1) red carriers, so both sides get the same amount.  The other possible AI fighter types are A6M5 and F6F-3.  Thus, depending on which ones are picked (50% chance between the two types), AI fighter losses may reduce inventory depending on where they spawn.  The bombers and their escorts always spawn from the respective supply bases.  The ground attack and anti shipping AI aircraft are the D3A2/B5N2 and SBD-3/TBF-1C, respectively, and like the fighters, their losses may reduce inventory depending on where they spawn.  Lastly, the kamikaze aircraft are the Ki-43-III-Ko, and their losses will definitely reduce inventory if they don't spawn from the supply base, for obvious reasons, lol :).

Thanks for the update Rel and all you have done in putting this map together.

Post when the campaign map will be reset to the starting positions for each side so we can start making movements as commanders.

Thanks,

Grey

Will do, some time this week when I’ve had a chance to tweak the road network as mentioned and re-test off-line
