Problem in BOS with my controller not getting recognized
« on: March 24, 2018, 09:45:21 am »
Problem in BOS with my controller not getting recognized.
I use two Cougar MFDs from Thrustmaster. One of them stopped working,
as did my rudder controls.
After much consternation and removing/reinstalling my controllers to no avail,
I was assisted by Thrud with getting rid of the CH Program Manager and going
solely on the windows setups for the sticks.
Reviewing multiple posts on the Internet, I learned that Windows provides up to 10 controllers
available for programs to use. My BOS recognized one of my MFDs as Device #10,
but although I could make assignments to this device in the key mapping screen, the
buttons would not function once I returned to the cockpit.
Thanks to Thrud, I learned that BOS has a folder "IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\input
that helps handle the controllers used in the game.
One of the files in this folder is a text file, devices.txt, which shows up to 10 controllers recognized in
my install.

As you can see, the 10 devices are listed, but there are duplicate entries, specifically the MFDs,
which are both listed twice. One of these is assigned #10, whioch is actually the 11th device listed.
As such, it is not recognized when trying to fly in the game.
I removed the devices #9 and #10, which then allowed the game to see the same devices as #1 and #2.
The problem was then fixed. I also removed devices 3 and 4, since I no longer use CH Program Manager.

Hope this is found to be useful.
