F7F Tigercat for IL2 1946
« on: June 23, 2018, 08:22:37 am »
Hey Guys, not sure if this was posted before on not since it concerns an older mod for 1946 that until now I was not aware that it even existed.

I saw Juggernauts post on visiting a WWII aircraft museum & restoration site in Colorado and saw in one of the pics that they had a F7F Tigercat. Since I really like the twin engine jobs like the P-38, the sleeker varient twin of the F7F was something that I have always wished that the 1946 designers would create the Tigercat for the game.

That got me looking and I discovered that someone did create a mod for this bird in that would work in the 1946 game version and the HSFX mods. The SAS guys apparently did create one back in 2015 and I was not aware of it. According to the readme file it will work in HSFX, and I think it's the version that we currently use.

Here is the link for the download https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,47963.0.html

Since I really have only version of IL2 1946 on my system, and since I don't want to screw up my game for our campaigns. I was hoping that Relent or Scorp could take a look at this mod and let me know if it is something that we can safely add to our game mod folder in HSFX and maybe utilize in future campaigns.

Thanks

Can confirm this works in HSFX 7. But its not done the same way you normally activate mods.

Step 1: Download F7F Tigercat
Step 2: Create a folder in your main IL-2 HSFX and name it MODS (Just as its spelt, all capital letters)
Step 3: Extract the contents of the F7F download to your desktop (Or where ever you feel like)
Step 4: Copy the folder F7F-3 Tigercat and place it in your MODS folder that you created in Step 2.
Step 5: Download DiffFM for HSFX 7 here:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,38980.0.html
Step 6: Extract DiffFM to your main IL-2 HSFX directory and overwrite anything it asks you to.
Step 7: Open a file named air.ini (Here is an example of where mine is located) D:\IL2 HSFX\Files\com\maddox\il2\objects
Step 8: Scroll down until you see
F6F-5             air.F6F5 1                                    usa01 DESERT

Create a blank space and after it and add this:

F7F-3             air.F7F_3 1                                   usa01 SUMMER

So by the time your done it will look like this

F6F-5             air.F6F5 1                                    usa01 DESERT
F7F-3             air.F7F_3 1                                   usa01 SUMMER

Step 9: Save file and start your game and make sure its available.

Doing these steps is the only way I have been able to get it to work. If your not comfortable doing this get with me and I'll do it for you. Take care.

I guess you were not around IL-2 during the years of 3rd parties makers an addons... HSFX won the fight, but SAS had some really great versions....

as long as you keep a version everyone else uses for multiplayer, you can have other versions with addons you want...
