Do we open our 1946 campaign up to anyone ?

Just closed when we are in a campaign Rel.  The server during our campaign would only run on our BOS night.  This is going to be run just like '46 where we fire it up that night and it shuts down when done.

We don't want outsiders coming and taking planes that were ferried, etc... only if we invited others to join us - but that would be later down the road once we figure out if this will even work.

At least that was my thought.

I see no problems with having it open to the public, agreeing it provides a good ad for the squadron.

Let's play it by ear, IMO, and see if any problems arise that necessitate changing this policy.

If you let the general public in then that is not really related to my idea.

ie. the idea is this is for our squadron and friends and we have a set night and a set time - we join and run the mission.   Before the campaign we do exactly what we do for 1946, we determine who is on what side and we fly.

The issue, at least my understanding, ie. Greywolf said he can ferry planes and some yahoo can come in, take that plane.   Which doesn't really fit well into the idea this is our attempt to provide the same thing we have in 1946 with BoX.

But if this is what it will take to have people try it then we can.

Last night I believe there were 3 pilots in our BoX channel (I was there, but when I arrived at 8:45 EST it was empty)

Just set a time and call it out! :)  6:00 PM Pacific / 9:00 PM Eastern with a 2 hour session seems like a good time/duration.  The more we repeat the sessions the more folks can get used to being there at specific times, like IL2/46.

My understanding is the normal practice time posted on our server is 5:30 - 8:30 pacific time.

This was our normal 1946 practice date/times. Thats what I think this BoS night is going to replace.

Am I wrong?

I should be able to have something ready for next Tuesday but here is what I need to know:

Settings - Our Normal or Expert server or something in between?

Map - Probably anything except Stalingrad Summer as I have heard that there is something wrong with it.

Aircraft - I'll start work on our own Plane set but for now we can pick any of Coconuts

I can set things to start at 5:30 and finish at 8:30, once I have things documented I can pass it around so that more than one person can start it up.

Here is what I recommend for settings:

1. No externals (Greywolf, and correct me if I'm wrong,  however has requested, if possible, to provide the 'F4' externals view on the tarmac only to avoid collisions with ground objects when taxing - not sure if that is possible)
2. Icons has been requested.   I don't know what settings there are for this, ie, is it all or nothing, is there a range, etc...  Would be nice if there were server side options but I don't know how this works in BoX

Planeset.   I personally would like us to use Kuban.  That said, it was mentioned not everyone has those aircraft.  So maybe we can make sure there is an aircraft available from BoS/BoM ?   ie. always make sure there is a Yak, Lagg, P40 or something like that ?  Probably needs more discussion.   (The BoS map and setup there is there currently works for me as well if the group thinks that is a good starting point)

Maybe we need an inventory check (like we do in DCS) to see who has what and then who is interested in trying this out ?

Not sure where your going with the postings on the plane sets Scorp as you offered no explanation to us user type. (Rel, you know I can't pass up the opportunity to Tron Bash IL2  :o) It's a Typical Tron like Master Server posting  ;D

In my litle mind, I see your post as what aircraft are typically available in each mapsets (Default Planeset). Am I in the right ballpark with that thought?

Not sure what the Static # is for those planesets? Is that the default # of that aircraft type available at each active airfield?

Assuming I'm close with those thoughts, is there a way to expand on each individual default planesets and numbers? On whatever map you choose to utilize?

Since I am a human, I can't see either side just throwing away perfectly good aircraft because the newer models suddenly became available. So tossing out the 109-F2's, F4's and E7's doesn't make sense to me. It was just easier for the Sturmovik developers to put the new planesets, with the new Game versions. ie... Stalingrad, Moscow, Kuban and Boddenplate.

Stating that fact, if your going to build our own dynamic campaign ...... how hard is it to customize it?  Can we add some of the available Boddenlate A/C that have been released. I realize that some of those a/c would drastically change the battle tactics, but if we put a limiter in the campaign that cannot be changed. Just tossing out an idea here.

Regarding what Recon posted. Our version of the Normal server is good with 90% of the guys that usually fly in it. So IMHO, it's fine as is. Guys that don't like it can go fly in the expert server. Our's or Coconuts, I don't care since they probably won't fly in it.

These are the default plane sets that Coconut has in the present campaigns.  So far I know little more than you do about the structure of these files but I assume that if we select a plane set the aircraft it contains will show up in our campaign.

Coconut is a bit sparse on documentation so you have to guess, ask and hope it works.

Basically I would like to know which of these plane sets we should use for the Tuesday night campaign.
