Icons and Externals
« on: September 15, 2018, 10:32:50 am »
I'm dropping out of our campaign as long as we continue to aid the fighter pilots with icons and externals.  Ruins the fun for bomber pilots.

To see 7+km big icons is just a complete deal breaker for me.

Its not easy getting to targets and to have a big "here I am come shoot me down" just ruins the fun.

On a side note - just.imagined 16 AKA pilots flying together on TAW - wreck havok on PvP servers...

Good luck - thanks for Scorp and others for making the campaign work - too bad we never compromised as my original idea had suggested. (No vote - no conversation)

The way you feel about icons is the way I feel about TAW. I will never fly the Russian side again in TAW. Now if the American a/c aren't total shyte(as Jericho would say) I would fly those in TAW.

Just a hunch but I doubt icons are going to be present next campaign.

Recon, I never understood sim pilots dislike for Icons! Some of the data displayed was available from Ground Control Radars which first appeared in the Battle of Britain.
The only icon that should be displayed in our game is the "range icon" that appears  under the airplane dot or symbol. This makes the aircraft more visible at about 6 nm (much closer than in real life) and gives range and ID information which was available to Fighter pilots from ground control or CIC. It also reduces the ridiculous ability for "Back shooting" pilots to "sneak up" on opponents for a cheap kill using the inferior graphics of the simulation!
Keep the "Range icon" in our game. Make the game more realistic!

There is DEFINITELY something to be said for being sneaky as hell and staying on the deck to avoid detection as much as possible, even with icons on.
Trying to hit where they ain't is something to think about.
Better coordination of attacks and such takes a bit of practice and as we saw last night, is imperative to a successful assault on an airfield.
If one wants to attack something else and stay out of sight, try to time it qwith a coordinated attack going on elsewhere.

The first mission was quite a learning experience.

I see this campaign as a testing/get acquainted phase.  We are testing Coconut's Campaign System and getting people who usually don't fly BoX used to it and that is why we have externals and icons.

I will continue to fly with icons but I will probably limit the missions I fly in bombers and attack aircraft because you are just too much of a sitting duck.  In a fighter with cons I still have options but in a bomber there is nowhere to hide.

+1

Recon, hopefully you'll reconsider after taking a step back.  As Scorp says, this is more a testbed to see how it shakes out.   Fly fighters for a while so you can gain the benefit of the icons for a little while, just to get the fun back in the game :).  You can escort me next time...
