what is this?
« on: November 19, 2018, 07:23:08 am »
After 3 attempts at un-installation and installation, each of which took many hours, I am still presented with this display when the game starts..

Please notice that I have no modules and more importantly, no access to any of the icons above, like settings, etc..  The game interface is squashed and many buttons are missing. Has anyone in DCS world seen anything like this?

When uninstalling, every file left behind was deleted, including the game folders.

NVIDIA control panel shows one display only ( as it should be) .

I simply cannot figure out why this is happening to after completely uninstalling the game.

It was ok on the first install then I went in and was looking for a way to make the display larger, stumbled across multi monitor and FOV selections somewhere, that is all I remember.  Because the game was completely uninstalled, more than once how can this be? It seems DCS keeping some settings persistent on an off site place that I cannot access, thus I am screwed. and understandably, quite annoyed. This DCS installer seems to me to be a little off the charts.

that should be on the right side of the screen. do the links work? click on the links on the right side to see if they work. it looks like your computer still thinks there are two monitors hooked up. So, it stretched the screen.

I did a quick search on DCS forums,,, and used the word 'stretched'

https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=222098&highlight=stretched

the people that had a screen problem with computer with more than one monitor and whatever they did to fix it.

updated fix info:

Basically add to this file:
...\DCS World\Config\MonitorSetup\1Camera.lua (you can copy/paste this file and create a new one with whatever name you see fit and edit this new file - select it in the DCS options ingame!)
I named it my3CamProfile.lua
I added this:

_ = function(p) return p; end;
name = _('my3CamProfile');
Description = 'One monitor configuration'
Viewports =
{
Center =
{
x = 0;
y = 0;
width = screen.width;
height = screen.height;
viewDx = 0;
viewDy = 0;
aspect = screen.aspect;
}
}
Gui =
{
x = 1920;
y = 0;
width = 1920;
height = 1080;
}

UIMainView = Gui

=============
the ones I pointed out yesterday in your monitor folder. Apparently your program thinks you have more than one monitor hooked up (still?) thought you were going to disconnect one monitor.

Thanks for trying Ram
Did not work though..

What kind of format does these LUA files require? ANSI, unicode, utf8?

default is ANSI

PS yes removed second monitor and rebooted before installing
 yes the links that show actually work.

(Got a sneaky feeling these are persistent)

if you uninstall and want to go into registry, just remove the dcs directory folder in the registry.
also, if you have any folders you fell you want to keep, don't delete them...
you can backup the registry first.

I would try uninstalling first,,, you probably don't need to. You probably need to work the LUA file(s) for the monitor in DCS.

This wasn't dcs's fault, TG. I know you wil not be happy when I say this, but it saw two monitors. I went through this when I was experimenting with more monitors.

Hey TG, sorry to hear of your troubles.  Yes, DCS writes to the registry, would have to search the registry to see exactly where, but it includes entries under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_USERS at least.

TG,

Sorry to hear about the issues.

First question, Do you have two monitors connected?

If so, do want DCS to show only on one?

Next point.  The .lua files are next files but it can be picky on what is at the end of a line.  From what i have read Windows Notepad doesn't always work correctly.  Notepad ++ us typically recommended.

There may be a simple "config" file somewhete, we just have to find it.

Hope to see you tonight.

I'm installing again, this time for good.

The problem as I see it now is 'lua' related so I will try rams suggestion above when it is finished installing.

Thank you Rel and Clutter for your input as well. We'll all figure it out soon ;)

I suspect the lua approach could work, but probably will not take. My fear is that my erroneous configuration is somehow stored in a remote server, the way steam does it. If so, I will never be able to fix this without a support ticket.
