Wed Night 7/9
« on: July 10, 2014, 08:12:36 am »
S! First off wanted to say great fun last night,Agile,Blasto,Bucky,Matte,Knut,Scorp,Hang and I flew in 401s server last night, very good turnout  ;D
Our first sortie was escort duty for a dozen Blennies on a mechanized transport column near St Omer bombers were intercepted by at least 8-12 109s just after we went feet dry near Calies,i think all of us got shooting in trying to protect our bombers,Blasto and I got separated from the group and tangled with several 109s and succeded to knock them all down but we lost the bomber group in doing so, but from comms chatter I know that the rest of the guys were busy with 109s near the bombers. the AI bombers accuracy leaves a lot to be desired as the target was only slightly damaged so for our second sortie we decided to take out the target ourselves with a Rhubarb sortie. We went in low all the way to target finding the mechanized column west of St Omer and did a fine job straffing the column, with many vehicles left burning, due to very heavy ground fire we used the rabbit tactic to good success making surviving of the intense flak easier, after several minutes we broke for the coast and reformed just off Calies out of flak range, before RTBing at  Manston our only loss was Hang as he was hit by ground fire from a BMW motorcycle rider armed with a mg and ditched off the coast of France but as luck would have it headquarters had a ASR Walrus standing by if any of our group was damaged from the heavy ground fire, and the Walrus crew fished hang out ok with much ribbing about the motorcycle rider getting a lucky shot in Hangs cooling system  ;)

Yes - that was fun last night. It was a very pleasany change from ATAG- even tho' I do enjoy their server most of the time.
Hopefully we can do it again soon!

That sounds like a great evening! I can't make Wednesday nights, or I'd certainly come out for this. If you like, I can let the other guys from 401 know about your Wednesday night flights and some might be able to make it.

We should also try and recruit some Blue Boys to join in, maybe shoot for a specific time every Wednesday?

Wolverine, is there a restricted plane set or are all planes available?

There's no real restriction. All versions should be available somewhere. If you'd like to have a specific aircraft at a specific airfield, just let me know.

Matte,

Pilots like GloriousRuse might be interested.

Just a caution- make sure you don't attempt any recruiting on ATAG forum or their TS - they are very sensitive to anyone doing anything that wouldn't promote their own server.

Recon, ATAG has a section on thier forum for other servers to announce campagins and special events.  Now I can see if someone posted "hey play on my server not ATAG" or you went on thier comms and tried to get people to leave they would be upset, but a new post on Wolverine's 401 public server mission thread with a specific time and request for Blue participation should not be an issue.  Have people been getting hassled by Bliss for talking about thier campaigns on the ATAG forums?

Wolverine, I was wondering about the plane set becasue I am not a big fan of the E4/N (the d-rated version should be used) and the "B" versions of the Emil because they are used as low altitude fighters instead of jabo, but that is just my opinion, take it with a grain of salt.

Hey MattE,

The N versions are in play due to the fact that we do not have a 1941 planeset to use and the FW190 would have been far superior to anything the allies had at the time (until the Spitfire IX). We have found during our combat that being able to have altitude on the scrambling fighters is a big enough advantage that the N does not experience significant gains on us until we are exfiltrating from the AoO, at which point we have presumably already pounded the target.

The individual performances of the aircraft have FAR less impact on our server in our types of missions than the would on a dogfighting oriented environment. Tactics, position and situational awareness are more likely the reason for victory (or defeat).

As for posting on ATAG, I won't do it for various reasons now that are probably clear if anyone has read the relevant posts on their forum (unless they've been deleted). Feel free to do so if you like. As you say, there's a section to promote other events.
