Require Information and Help Installing Video Card GTX780
« on: August 16, 2014, 08:47:19 am »
I am having a problem with install for IL-2 and Cliffs of Dover.
I have installed GTX780 and If running (IL2)game's off line all seems to be OK
If I go through HL or direct connect Game crashes or locks up
Going through Steam for Clod Same problem I can get into Game but No map at start up
So I cant pick plane everything worked before with Video 9600GT
If I lower Video options  to minimum I can play online (IL2) both through IP and HL
reading up on it I find it may be a problem in Windows7 and the time out within windows
is not long enough, It reported being set for 2Sec but could be increased to 5 Sec.(How??)
But I feel my problem may be in the Video Card Even though its a new card
Only because my MBO and other Hardware worked before

You could have some stuff turned on in the video settings that the game does not appreciate. Send me an email and I'll send you my settings on my 780

when I install video for Nvidia drivers, I always remove the 3d application part of the install. In the past it caused me great problems. besides, unless you use 3d hardware, it has no use. Also, make sure you don't overclock anything. Your Visual C+ software has to be up to date, and other MS software. All of that can cause lots of problems if not installed. Can't think of anything else right now.

Goshawk
Thanks for reply
I have forwarded my email addy
Thanks for early response

Ramstein
Thanks to you as well
As an update
I have already removed all extra drivers (had 4)
I have never overclocked.
Will check all MS software but believe all up to date.
It must be something simple that I am missing
All is not lost

S!~
Bill-I see you have an older processor. Is it good? Yes. But you should over-clock it to about 3.4- to 3.8. It will run Cliffs better.
If you have enough scrilly to purchase a 780- then invest in 8 more gigs of ram- and its cheap? You basically wil then have a good-great processor- a great card- and doubled up ram. Its worth the ram at least. Keep it cool. I run a monster heat sink- and have 955 OC to 3.6. Its a "Black Edition- Deneb" whatver I paid money for that for. My card is smaller- the 760 2 g.
Sometimes- more often than not- its a bad install of the game- or a bad patch. Make sure the game is installed correctly first- before changing things around with your hardware. But get the ram- its basically 2x as powerful-v and loads things quickly- you'll see.
I don't see what power source youre running- but get 650W in asap- but preferably a 850W- its important with those huge cards.
Gl- you can do it Bill- then things will be good- not bad.  8)

Please reread specks in first post ;D

Thanks again to all for the input.
I did not want to upgrade everything because this is more than my immediate needs or so I thought.
Its just I wanted to try out Clod. My only real game play to this point was Il-2.
I was an original AAA member so have some history with the game.
Had a real deal on the GTX780 so went for it because of eye candy.
Then things went downhill.
I think I have isolated the problem and yes it could be need more memory I have 8 installed
But board may not take more, reading boards specs in one place says (to 16) yes, in another I am at limit
I have not reinstalled game yet don't feel need too. It worked fine with old Card (9600GT)
Problem still remains with both Games,
In IL2 Setup, Video Options everything can be set up to max without Crashing.
exceptions, Obj. detail (low) , Landscape detail (Medium).anything higher and it crashes. going direct or HL
offline everything  A ok
In Clod when I join everything comes up through steam But No map.
I have fiddled with regedit and have created some varying improvement. But not consistent,
Problem there is I am using win 7 Ultimate which has not the same instructions as Win7.
trying to find ValueData to change the number of seconds for TDR is a guessing game for me.
but I think that's what needs to be changed.

Steam is the root of all evil nothing but problems launching through it. You wanna be launching seperately
