Spam attempt attacks
« on: January 22, 2015, 04:52:54 pm »
I've had about 1000 spam attacks trying to register in the forum. So far, other than the first A.H. that got by, I've just been able to refuse acceptance to them. I have tried to load the checker thing that generates a code to enter but have not been successful at getting it to work properly. If anyone has some more ideas, I'd appreciate them.

I would need to go the forum host pages, and see the scripts they offer.. maybe they have some extras we can setup... if you go to their scripts, look and see what they have ready for quick easy install... they are usually packaged for the clients they rent the server space to, like us... and you just run an easy install... you could have a completely closed registration... since we don't need it to be open anyways..

76 more attempts this morning. Sheesh!
I'll check out closing the registration for a while. Hopefully, if we need to add someone  we can do it manually.

Does the registration process include showing an image where the user has to type in the letters and/or numbers the image displays?  This seems to be the best method to foil the registration bots.

Edit -  oops I just reread your post... I would seek help from the site host to get that image/code verification thing to work.

Up to over 3000 spam attempts. I'm going to change my email address in the forum settings to see if maybe it's a problem with my email account.
Crossing fingers here!

gods I don't have the info, but remember the hosting site has a bunch of scripts..         get together with me or someone else who know how. it's pretty easy, just pick the available script, run it and it to the your website.. so, sign into (Go Daddy? whois the host ?) look to see what they offer in your package.. if they don't have to then grab the script from an outside source... then we can have image verification, or something..
