Scorp: entering speed into Blenheim bombsight
« on: September 23, 2015, 09:05:06 pm »
Scorp, do you use a chart similar to how this is done for entering your speed in the bombsight ?

(btw - anyone wanting to fly the Blennie might want to read the link I sent).

Bucky (and anyone else) - this also shows use of the protractor that I was discussing a few nights ago

ok, first off, I had some success last night....

AKA_Recon   AKA   11   08:58:22   2   2   3   4   852.00   0   0   0

(I had like 420 or something before last night)...

Here is what continues to baffle me....    I input IAS into my bombsite both nights and it appears I'm hitting dead on.    Again, the confusing thing is both nights I had good success and was using IAS.

(update, when I goto http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/utils/lotfe7.html and look at the target elevation , it says 3 meters ... so it's not like I had to worry about compensating)

Last night, when you called out you were dropping, I wasn't even close to being ready to drop - I held off and used my IAS setup.  So I think you dropped quite a bit early.

That all said then, I'm curious, did you calculate to TAS and use that - which then missed, whereas I was using IAS   (Assuming of course that the speed indicator in the bombadier position is IAS)

Thanks

(well, to further this discussion I need to know what the wind situation is - if it truly was coming directly at us last night, it would have been just pure luck that IAS was correct ???)

I put a question out to Philstyle on wind

Another update.... answer from Philstyle....

Hi Recon,
You can get the wind conditions from using the TAB-7 menu in game.
However CloD doe not have the same wind conditions all over the map. Wind is affected slightly by termapreture, landform and pressure, so it won't be the same all over as it was where you took off from - but close enough to be helpful.

I use this to calculate TAS

http://www.csgnetwork.com/tasinfocalc.html

I missed the airfield last night as I don't have anymore bombs on airfield.

So, are you saying you are converting to TAS and entering that into bombsite ?

Bomb table utility. put in any folder unzip utility into filder... run exe, put icon on desktop. cannot add the file here, as it is less then 700 kb... but max size allowed is less then 200 kb. can email it...

I put it in my One Drive sharing folder

whoa

We don't need this (see first post) the question was - (1) does Scorp use TAS, (2) why is it that I'm dead on 100% using IAS.

Context:  Scorp missed last night using TAS, I was using IAS and was trying to sort it out  :)

I'll try IAS the next time just to see if it works any better.  As TAS is higher it would tend to make you drop sooner as the sight would calculate the bombs traveling further.

I have a new theory... but we can't retro actively see the weather conditions...

Here is my guess:

1) wind was coming at us
2) by chance, since I used IAS it caused me to drop later - as you suggested
3) TAS is correct, but I got lucky and next time we need to do the TAB 7 to check wind conditions

Again, I think I just *got lucky* (normal for me to have things happen by luck vs. skill -LOL)

So, I want to stick to using TAS but be aware of weather conditions.

BTW, I really enjoyed the bomber run, I'm looking forward to next run!!!!

I used IAS last night and hit fairly close to where I was aiming but I was low (3700) as the clouds were low and I couldn't see the target.

Part of the problem with the other night was that I wasn't expecting to have to tell everyone else when to drop which put me off a bit.
